Can you travel out of the country on a soon to expire passport?

Question: My passport expires in April. Post office just told me that I cannot travel within 6 months of expiration date. is this correct?

Answer: Your passport is valid until the date of expiration. You can exit and enter the United States up to the day your passport expires.

However, many countries in the world require you to have at least six months validity remaining in your passport beyond your visit before they will allow you to enter.

Please verify the foreign entry requirements for the country of countries you plan to visit.

Depending on the date of your departure, you many still have time to renew your passport by regular processing. This takes 4-6 weeks. Expedited services will get it to you in 2-3 weeks.
