Important Due to Covid-19, processing times for passports may take up to 18 weeks for routine service and 12 weeks for expedited processing.

Troy Passport - Where to Apply for a Passport in Troy, NY.

There are only a couple of Troy passport offices where American citizens can submit application Form DS-11 and supporting documents so we included a few more from nearby cities. After the application is adjudicated and placed in a sealed envelope along with the supporting documents, you need to mail it to the processing center. It is not necessary to appear for other passport services such as renewals, name change, and corrections. Requests for these services can by made by mail.

You can expect to get your passport in approximately 6 to 8 weeks if there are no errors on the form and the supporting documents are acceptable. Otherwise, you will probably face delays. Those who need to get their passports faster can request expedited service. This process can take up to 3 weeks. Individuals who need to get their travel document in 2 weeks or less or need to submit it for a foreign visa application in 4 weeks can set up an appointment at the New York Passport Agency. If there is no opening prior to your departure date or visiting the agency is not possible, a registered expediter can get passports in 24 to 48 hours.

For a list of acceptance facilities in cities other than Troy, visit the New York passport office page.

COVID-19 UPDATE: Mailing delays are impacting passport processing. The Department of State's processing times begin when applications are received and not when you mail them. Standard service may take up to 18 weeks from the day the application is submitted to the day the passport arrives at your door. This timeframe includes up to 12 weeks of processing and up to 6 weeks for mailing.

Expedited service may take up to 12 weeks -- 6 weeks processing and an additional 6 weeks mailing on the front and back end. Delays may be significant so requesting 1-2-day mailing may greatly help.

Regional passport agencies are offering extremely limited in-person services if you need to travel internationally in the next 72 hours. Those with qualified life-or-death emergencies are prioritized.

Life-or-death emergencies are serious illnesses, injuries, or deaths in your immediate family (parent, legal guardian, child, spouse, sibling, and grandparent) that require you to travel outside the United States within 72 hours (3 business days).

If you need to travel due to a qualified life-or-death emergency, please call the National Passport Information Center for an appointment.
