The San Juan Passport Agency expedites passports for citizens of the United states and non-citizen nationals who plan to travel within 14 days or who will travel within 28 days and need both a passport and a visa. In order to submit your application form and supporting documents at the San Juan regional agency, you first need to make an appointment by calling 1-877-487-2778.

You should visit a passport acceptance facilities in Puerto Rico for routine and expedited passport service applications when applying for a first time passport or a passport for a minor. Standard service time is 10-12 weeks door-to-door and expedited processing is 4-6 weeks.

If you are not traveling within 14 days you must apply in person at a passport application acceptance facility in Puerto Rico.

COVID-19 UPDATE: This agency is currently processing passport applications. To prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect both workforce and customers, agencies are currently limiting in-person appointments to customers who are traveling internationally in the next 72 hours (3 business days) due to a life-or-death emergency.

Life-or-death emergencies are serious illnesses, injuries, or deaths in your immediate family (parent, legal guardian, child, spouse, sibling, and grandparent) that require you to travel outside the United States within 72 hours (3 business days).

You can apply for routine service and expect to receive a passport in 10-12 weeks. You also have the option of paying an additional fee for expedited service to receive your passport in 4-6 weeks.

Processing Times

Will call service is offered for life/death emergencies and immediate travel abroad (leaving within 8 business days). Pickup will be based on travel plans. For all other customers, passports will be issued within 8 business days of applying at the agency. You will be informed of how the passport will be sent during your appointment.

How to Get to the San Juan Passport Agency

Car :

Driving from the South (including Caguas, Ponce, and Guayama): Take Expressway PR-52. Continue onto PR-18. Merge onto PR-22 Expreso De Diego. Take exit 0A Calle Pavia (last exit before tunnel). Go up to the light and cross Avenida Ponce de Leon (PR-25) onto Avenida Jose de Diego straight ahead. The Minillas Government Center will one block up on your left across the street from the Puerto Rico Museum of Art.

From the West (Bayamon, Arecibo, and Aguadilla): Take Expressway PR-22 (TOLL) Expreso De Diego. You will pass Plaza Las Americas mall on your right and when the road forks, stay on the left on the lanes going to San Juan and Santurce. Stay in the center or right lanes. Take exit 0A Calle Pavia (last exit before tunnel). Go up to the light and cross Avenida Ponce de Leon (PR-25) onto Avenida Jose de Diego straight ahead. The Minillas Government Center will one block up on your left across the street from the Puerto Rico Museum of Art.

From the East (Fajardo and Humacao): Take road PR-3. Take exit on left for PR-66 (Toll). PR-66 becomes PR-26 Expresso Baldorioty de Castro. Pass the airport on your right. Exit on the side street (marginal) for Calle San Jorge (C. San Jorge). Pass the first light (calle San Jorge). Pass the second light (calle Del Parque). Make a left on the third light (Avenida Jose de Diego). Go over the overpass. The Minillas Government Center will be on your right across the street from the Puerto Rico Museum of Art.

From the Airport: Take PR-26 Expreso Baldorioty de Castro west towards San Juan. Exit on the side street (marginal) for Calle San Jorge (C. San Jorge). Pass the first light (calle San Jorge). Pass the second light (calle Del Parque). Make a left on the third light (Avenida Jose de Diego). Go over the overpass. The Minillas Government Center will be on your right across the street from the Puerto Rico Museum of Art.

From Old San Juan, including the cruise piers: Take PR-1. Merge onto PR-26 Expresso Baldorioty de Castro. Exit Avenida de Diego. At the light (Avenida de Diego) make a right. The Government Center will be on your right across the street from the Puerto Rico Museum of Art.

Public Transportation (Bus): You can take Bus A5 from Ponce De Leon Avenue or B21 from the Condado area. The Minillas Government Center is located at Stop 22 (Parada 22) in front of the Puerto Rico Museum of Art.

What to Do When You Arrive for Your Appointment at the San Juan Passport Agency

  • Arrive early to allow enough time to pass through building security screening and metal detectors (weapons are prohibited).
  • See the security officer at the entrance to the building on the Promenade Level.
  • The Officer will direct you to take the elevator to the 9th floor.
  • Check-In at the Information Desk. Present your Social Security Number or Appointment Confirmation Number to verify your appointment.
  • Receive your number, please be seated, and wait until your number is called.
  • When your number is called go to your assigned window. A passport specialist will review your forms and supporting documents.
