Father put wrong last name on passport by: Anonymous Question: Sixty-four years ago my father (can't read or write) used his mother's last name for his passport. All of his documents are listed under his father's last name and he is having a extremely difficult time getting ID or changing bank account due to this error made so many years ago. Answer: Requests for a passport correction due to a printing error are processed as an expedited service. You do not need to pay to expedite the processing of the correction. The birth certificate should arrive soon. As soon as it does, you may mail the request for correction to the agency that processed the application. You daughter should get her passport in 2-3 weeks. If she needs faster service, she can submit the request for a correction at the closest regional passport agency. There will be no need for an appointment and proof of immediate international travel. Applications submitted at a regional agency are processed in 1-8 business days.
