At the facility, an official passport agent will look over Form DS-11 and supporting documents, administer an oath and witness as you sign the application. All the items will be placed in an envelope along with payment for the application fee. The execution fee is paid to the facility.
Address the envelope according to the service you request whether standard or expedited. There is an additional fee of $60 for expedited service but the time to process the application is estimated to take 2 to 3 weeks instead of the regular 6 to 8 weeks.
If you need a passport more quickly, you can apply at the Los Angeles Passport Agency. An appointment is required at most agencies. An alternative for those who cannot get to the regional agency is to employ the services of a registered expediter. Expedited service through either of these options can be completed in a couple of days to as fast as the same day.
