Passport ran out of visa pages

Question: My passport expires in August of next year and I ran out of pages and I need travel to China next month, do I need to renew my passport or add more pages?
Answer: Effective January 1, 2016, The U.S. Department of State no longer issues additional visa pages. This service has been discontinued to enhance the security of U.S. Passports and to adhere to international passport standards.
Because of this, you will need to renew your passport now. Passport Services recommends that application for renewals be submitted approximately nine (9) months before the expiration date since many countries require at least six (6) months of validity before they will issue a visa or allow a foreigner to enter.
This means that the recommended date for you to renew your passport is December of this year. By renewing now, you lose more than a year of validity but you will not have to complete another process at the end of the year.
