Question: I mailed my passport renewal application and my mailing address is Florida. The lady at the post office filled out the address which I assumed should go to Texas. I double-checked the tracking and it’s showing it’s in Philadelphia. Is this going to cause a delay or an issue with my application?

Answer: There is a good number of processing centers in the United States and applications may be routed to any one of them. It is alright that yours was directed to Philadelphia.

USPS Priority Mail But No Delivery Confirmation
by: Anonymous

Question: USPS tracking information shows that my priority mail letter for "expedited" passport renewal service "Departed Philadelphia PA Distribution Center" on June 9.

Since then getting daily messages from USPS that "Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility."

Does that make sense? Seems like a boilerplate answer.

Why don't they show any information regarding the names of the USPS facilities the letter arrived at or departed from during the past five days?

Anyone else has a similar experience? I am beginning to wonder if my application isn't lost?

Answer: Your application is being routed to a processing center than can best accommodate your expedited request. There is no need to be apprehensive at this time.

We have international travel booked for 06/01. Will we get the passport back on time?

The status check online says it takes 4 weeks for them to update the system and that the status is not available.

Answer: Hi, Jason. Expedited service takes 4 to 6 weeks. I assume that you did not receive the passport on time for your trip if it was for June 1st.

Delivered- not in process
by: Anonymous

Question: I applied for an expedited passport in April. I have a tracking number that said it is delivered. The check hasn't been processed. The application says that it is "Not Available". They are not letting in-person passports be done. I leave in 2 weeks for international travel. I have called the agency and the post office and no one can find my passport. How do I get one in the 12 days before I leave? Can I request my old one back?

Answer: A status that says 'unavailable' does not necessarily mean that the application was lost. It is possible that it has not been entered into the system yet that's why the agent you spoke to also cannot find it.

The Department of State's website says that it takes about 4 weeks for an application to appear as 'in process' in the tracking system. During this period, your application is received at the processing center, the check is cashed and the actual processing is started.

The only place that can issue a passport in your required time is a regional passport agency. Unfortunately, appointments are extremely limited and applicants in qualified life-or-death emergencies are prioritized. Your appointment date must be 72 hours before your scheduled flight. Bring a copy of your airline ticket as proof of imminent international travel.

Question: I have called the passport number numerous times to speak to someone but when it tries to transfer me to an agent I get a busy tone and it hangs up. How can I talk to someone if that number isn't working?

Answer: The National Passport Information Center is receiving a large volume of calls at present and this may be the reason why some calls get dropped. Since you cannot reach an agent, you may be better served by sending an email to NPIC@state.gov. According to the State Department's website, emails are answered within 24 hours.

Delivery status pending
by: Anonymous

Question: I have sent my renewal application via priority mail over a week ago but when I track the package it is pending delivery. I mailed expedited service, now I am worried that it is lost.

Answer: According to the latest update posted on the State Department's website, it takes about 4 weeks for the application to be "in process". During this time, the application is delivered to the processing center, the check is cashed and the processing started.

At this point, there is no need to worry that the application is lost. It may still be on its way to the processing center that's why it says pending delivery. You may check the status of your application in a couple of weeks. You may also contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778.

UPS store wrote Routine Service post office box number instead of Expedited Service post office box number
by: Anonymous

Question: I applied for passport renewal and my application was delivered at the National Passport Processing Center at Philadelphia, PA on April 4, 2021.

Unfortunately, the UPS store associate wrote Routine Service post office box number (90155) instead of the post office box number for Expedited Service (90955)

The processing time is 4-6 weeks for expedited processing which I paid for. It has been 38 days since the passport was delivered to the processing center but the Application Status is shown as "Not available" in passportstatus.state.gov website.

I have an out-of-country trip coming up this month. How to expedite the processing now? Thanks.

Answer: The application was likely rerouted to the right processing center. Also, it takes about 4 weeks for an application to appear as '"in process" in the tracking system.

You may contact passport services at 1-877-487-2778 to confirm that your application is being processed as an expedited service.

Expedited service
by: Anonymous

Question: Hello. I applied for expedited service on April 8th and my application was delivered on April 23rd. I have a flight on May 27. Would my passport get here on time?

Answer: Your application is currently on its 5th week since submission. Since expedited service takes 4 to 6 weeks to complete, it is very likely that your passport will arrive in time for your trip. You may check the status of your application here.

Passport time
by: Anonymous

Question: I sent my passport renewal into the Irving office and it was received April 17th 2021. I decided to do the routine renewal due to the fact it said processing at the time was 6 to 8 weeks and expedited was 4 to 6. Now online it's saying 10 to 12 weeks which will put it past my travel dates. Can I change it to expedited with my packet already sent in? Or if there are any other recommendations!

Answer: You may contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 to see if you can pay for expedited service via credit card over the phone.

No progress in expedite service
by: Anonymous

Question: Applied passport at USPS on 3/17 under expedite option. Checked with USPS, the application was delivered to 19190, PA on 03/23. tracking the application on 4/20 - status is 'not available'. Check is also not cashed yet. Any suggestions please.

Answer: According to the Department of State's website, it takes about 4 weeks for an application to appear as "in process" on the tracking system. Since your application is just 4 days over the 4-week mark, it should be in process soon.

You may contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 for more information.

Payment was cashed
by: Anonymous

Question: How long after the check is cashed does one appear as "In-process" on the website?

Answer: According to the Department of State's website, it takes about 4 weeks for an application to appear as "in process" in the tracking system. During this time, your application is delivered to a mail facility, your payment is processed, and your application is scanned and sent to us to a processing center.

Why hasn't my application been picked up from the Post Office?
by: Donna B

Question: Our passport renewal applications arrived at the Philadelphia Post Office ( PO Box 90155, Zip Code 19190-0155 on April 10. When I track them they show still show as Ready for Pickup. It is now April 16! I received a notice from the post office they will only hold them until April 24!

Answer: There's no cause for worry. According to the Department of State's latest update, it takes about 4 weeks for an application to get to the processing center. '

Finally in Process!!
by: Anonymous

UPDATE: I sent my application USPS Priority on Feb 22nd, it was received by PA zip code 19176 on March 15th (shoulnt have taken that long but it did). It was sitting in that post office till today. Finally today (4/14/21) status changed to In Process. So I guess hang in there everyone!

Applied at USPS
by: Anonymous

Question: I applied at a USPS location exactly 4 weeks ago, and checks not cashed and status online is not found.

I took a photo of the USPS priority mail bill on the envelope (the bill was created by the USPS clerk, not me). The bill has the delivery address as LITERALLY "PHILADELPHIA, PA 19190"... No PO Box number and no zip code extension, or any thing other than the quoted text. Tracking status says "delivered at [...] in PHILADELPHIA, PA 19190". I am worried it may have been delivered to the wrong location since the destination address is incomplete.

Any thoughts on that?

Answer: It is very unlikely that your application was sent to the wrong address. Acceptance facilities cater to a good number of applications on a daily basis so we can expect them to know what they are doing.

This is what the Department of State's website says in verbatim:

"It may take up to 4 weeks from the day you apply until your application status is "In Process." During these 4 weeks, your application is delivered to a mail facility, your payment is processed, and your application is scanned and sent to us. If your passport status update says "Not Available," your application and supporting documents are safely on their way to us."

At this point, there is really no cause for concern. Your application is on its way.

for those who have their passport renewal stuck at 19176

I had encountered a similar situation. They will eventually pick that up (don't worry). Check your passport status.

Passport application stuck at 19176
by: Anonymous

My Passport application is stuck at 19176 Post Office since March 15th. I called the Passport office today and I was told that Passport office in Philly has 2 zip codes, 19176 is one of them. So may be it is really waiting there for someone to pick it up. I am hoping that's the case.

Mailed to 19150; Stuck at 19176
by: Anonymous

Similar to others, I mailed my app on 3/10/21 to the processing center at zip 19150. It says it was received on 3/12/21 at zip 19176. Today is 3/30/21. I called the passport agency and they seemed concerned and have said they’ll call me back if they are able to locate. I also put in a list package claim with USPS. It’s helpful to know others have had this experience. Has anyone’s issue been resolved?

Where do I send my application?
by: Anonymous

Question: My permanent address where I reside is in New York, but my mailing address is in Florida due to preference. Which address do I send my application to, since Florida and New York require applications to be sent to different addresses?

Answer: Residents of Florida and New York may send their renewal applications to the following address:

National Passport Processing Center
P.O. Box 640155
Irving, TX 75064-0155

If you are submitting a different application, the form should have the address printed on it.

Same Problem, Has Anyone Found a Solution?
by: Concerned for All

Has anyone who commented that their passport application has been stuck at PO 19176 without any additional movement or updates found out what is going on? I, too, have the exact same issue & I am extremely concerned for all of us.

Also stuck in 19176
by: Anonymous

My experience is the same as others whose applications (mine's a renewal containing my passport) are stuck in 19176. I used the PO's texting service and they advise that the 19176 post office services the 19190 PO boxes, so it's a matter of the Passport office picking up the deliveries, or so the PO says. Sounds very odd to me.

Stuck at 19176
by: Anonymous

Question: My Passport renewal application is also stuck at zip code 19176 in Philadelphia. I have a service request open with USPS but no one is able to tell me if my application was actually delivered. Did anyone have luck after their application was stuck at 19176?

Answer: You may contact passport service at 1-877-487-2778 or log on to http://uspsg.net/status/ to check the actual status of your application.

Renewal "Stuck" at Philadelphia Post Office Zip Code 19176
by: Anonymous

Question: My passport renewal application was mailed on 2/22 to Philadelphia zip code 19190-0155 as per the DS-82 instructions. Somehow, it was routed to the Philadelphia zip code 19176 instead (similar to the experiences of two previous posters) and appears to be still sitting there today 3/18 with no movement reflected in USPS tracking.

I initiated a USPS "service request" on 3/4 to no avail. I also have been trying to check the status of my renewal at http://uspsg.net/status, but I keep getting the response: "Application Status: Not Found".

Your response to the two previous commenters having this problem was that the address on the form is not always the final destination and that applications are re-routed to processing centers that can best accommodate them.

This doesn't make sense to me for several reasons:

1. How would the post office know which processing center to route them to?
2. If my application was re-routed, the USPS tracking should reflect that re-routing. It doesn't show any movement from 19176.
3. In your response to commenter Albert, you stated "We do not know if 19150-0155 is housed inside a post office in 19176." It would seem to me that the passport department should know, or be able to find out, what is happening at 19176 and why packages are being held up there.

Please find out what is going on, and clear up the log jam that appears to be occurring at 19176. Also please post what is going on on your website. After all, the information contained in the passport application packages contains sensitive personal information subjecting the applicants to identity theft and worse.

Answer: As a privately-run website, we do not have access to the status nor control of the processing of passport applications. The answers and information we post on this website are based on the government's official website and other reputable sources. We are not the government. We only serve to provide information on passport issuance and other travel-related topics.

We recommend that you contact the National Passport Information Center for answers to all your questions, including the status of your application. The number to call is 1-877-487-2778.

I don’t see delivery attempted
by: Anonymous

Question: Hi, I sent passport renewal for Expedited service to PA-19190 and it was saying that it will delivered to passport agency on March 14th by 9:00 PM. Still in the tracking, I see it is saying that arrived at Post office -19176 and I don’t see any movement after that. How should I contact that PO and passport agency to know the status of my passport documents?

Answer: The address on the form is not always the final destination of applications. They are re-routed to processing centers that can best accommodate them. There is no need to worry about there the application was forwarded to.

You may check the status of your application here: http://uspsg.net/status/. Please note that it takes several business days for an application to be entered into the system. If you cannot find your application now, just try again in a few days.

Return to sender
by: Anonymous

I sent my passport via USPS express this Friday to correct the PO box 90955 for expedited services with waive signature and I have tracking information.

The amount I paid was provided by USPS (26.35), which was paid. I got a text the same day at 8PM saying "return to sender". Not sure why it’s getting returned?

And will I be able to use that amount to reissue?

Answer: The address for expedited renewal is the following:

National Passport Processing Center
P.O. Box 90955
Philadelphia, PA 19190-0955

We cannot answer why the application was tagged as return to sender. You will need to contact USPS regarding the issue.

As for the $26.35 fee you paid, I am assuming it is for postal service. Again, USPS can advice whether or not you can use it to re-mail your application.

The fee for an expedited renewal is $170. The check should be sealed and sent with the rest of the application requirements.

Passport Not Sent to My Residence and Says Delivered

Who to send my app with?
by: Fritz Schatzi

Question: USPS lost my renewal passport app (DS-82). Now I'm in the process of a second attempt(DS-11) but I don't want to deal with USPS anymore. Department of State claims I can't use UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc but USPS. Meanwhile, I see these private companies take Passport apps. Please clarify this.

Answer: Hello, Fritz. Private passport couriers exist to assist applicants in submitting their applications. A private courier can also help ensure that all your requirements are in order.

Since you will be using DS-11, you need to go to a local passport office to have the application form adjudicated by a passport agent. Tell the passport agent that you will be submitting through a private courier.

The agent will seal your application packet and hand it back to you. You can then have a private passport courier submit it for you. We recommend Rush My Passport expedited passport service.

Going through a private courier will cost you a little more on top of the government fees but this should take away the worry of the application and documents getting lost and of you having to start over.

Concerned about passport application arrival
by: Albert

Question: Hello,
I hope someone knows the answer to my question.
I mailed my passport renewal application on February 17th via USPS 3 day priority mail with tracking. The last notification I received from USPS was that the package arrived at the Post Office in Philadelphia 6 days later on the 23rd.

My concern is that I mailed the package to a PO Box and the zip code I sent it to was 191950-0155 and the Post Office that received the package has a zip code of 19176. Zip codes don't match. Would a PO Box with zip code 19150-0155 be housed inside the Post Office with zip code 19176?

Answer: We do not know if 19150-0155 is "housed inside" a post office in 19176. What we can tell you is that applications are sent or redirected to the processing that can best accommodate it and there are numerous processing centers in the country. The discrepancy in the zip codes should not be a cause for concern.

You may check the status of your application here: http://uspsg.net/status/. Please note that it takes several business days for an application to be entered into the tracking system. If you cannot find your application now, just try again in a few days.

Sent to wrong address
by: Anonymous

Question: Hi, I sent my passport renewal to the wrong address. What can be done?

Answer: If you sent the application to the wrong processing center, it will simply be rerouted to the right one. If you sent it to an address that is not on the form, you need to contact the courier to possibly get a hold of the parcel and have it returned to you.

Passport Application Delay
by: Anonymous

Question: Why is my passport application being held up in Salt Lake City? I mailed it from Wyoming over ten days ago and tracking shows it is sitting in Salt Lake City.

Answer: There are numerous processing centers in the country and applications are routed to the center that can best accommodate them. Regular processing takes 10 to 12 weeks to complete. Since it has only been 10 days since your application was submitted, there is no delay -- you are well within the published processing time.

Where is my U.S. passport?
by: shanti Shrestha

Question: I sent my passport to Philadelphia address for a renewal. They deposited the fee already on 1/20/2021 but they did not send me back my passport. It's been more than a month.

Answer: Hello, Shanti. Regular renewal processing takes approximately 10 to 12 weeks to complete. If you paid for expedited service, processing is 4 to 6 weeks. Either way, your renewal is still within the published processing times.

Determining Costs of Renewal and Postage
by: Anonymous

Question: How do I find out the actual fees required to renew my passport? If I need it expedited, do I send it to an address in Philadelphia, PA, and if so, how do I determine costs for overnight to and from that location plus the cost of renewal? Very elusive to find actual costs!

Answer:

Passport Fees

Renewal fee: $110
Expedite fee: $60
Overnight delivery (return): $17.56

Postage fees to the processing center will be determined by the courier you choose. We recommend using a traceable delivery method.

I hope I was able to provide some answers to your questions.

MY check is not cashed yet.

Question: We sent in our children’s passports through our post office on March 17th from California. Our checks for the passports were cashed immediately. We have no information on the status of the passports and are desperate to find out when we will receive them. We have called and checked the status only to see the same canned phrase about delays. Basically No information is available. We need more information immediately, this is an urgent situation. If golf courses and Starbucks are allowed to open I can not understand why something this essential cannot provide any information. Even with a delay, some sort of timeline should be available.

Only advice we have gotten is to declare it lost and resubmit. I'm looking for another course of action.

My travel date is exactly 14 days from now on 8/13. Will I get my passport in time or should I be making a appointment with my local passport agency ?

NATIONAL PASSPORT
500 WHITE CLAY CENTER DR
NEWARK, DE, 19711 5497, US

Answer: It is impossible to determine if your passport will be issued before the application arrives. If you requested expedited service, the commitment is to process the application within 8 business days after it arrives at the agency.

Once the application has been rerouted to the processing center and arrives at the proper location, it takes 5-7 days to be entered into the system. After this is done, you can check the status of your application online.

If you did not request expedited service, we recommend you do so by calling 1-877-487-2778between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, except Federal holidays. You might also want to request overnight delivery of your new passport. Expedited service is $60 and overnight delivery is $15.45.

We recommend you wait to see if your passport arrives by Aug 11 before visiting a regional passport agency. If you visit the agency on Aug 12 as a walk-in, arrive well before it opens. Inform agency personnel that you do not have an appointment but already have an application being processed. Take proof of travel.

Where is my passport renewal?
by: Anonymous

Question: I sent my passport to PO Box 90155 for expedited service on Jan 22, 2015. It was delivered on Jan 23 and signed by K. Kahraman.

Today is the 2nd of February and I have not received my passport back even thoush I sent a prepaid expedited envelope. I just checked and the tracking number has not been activated.

Roberta

Answer: First of all, the correct PO Box for expedited service is 90955 so it probably took a little extra time to get to the right PO Box.

Then, it takes 7-10 days after applying for status of your application to be available online.

Finally, expedited service by mail is estimated to take up to 3 weeks.

Therefore, your application status should be available within the next day or two and your application should be processed and your new passport delivered no later than February 16 as long as the application, documents and payments are accepted.
