Where is my renewed passport?

by Judith
(Hendersonville, NC)

Question: My husband and I mailed both of our passports together for renewal to PO Box 90155 in Philadelphia. Our separate checks were cashed on February 8.

My husband's new passport arrived via Priority mail on February 22 postmarked Portsmouth NH. His old passport arrived the same day via regular mail also from Portsmouth, but a different street address.

If it was sent, please track it as it still hasn't arrived with today's (February 24) mail. Thank you.

Answer: Passport applications sent together do not remain together at the processing center. Since estimated time for routine processing is 4-6 weeks, the applications can be completed and passport mailed out on different days.

Your renewed passport should arrive within the next few days. You can check the status of the application by clicking here. If it does not arrive soon, contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778.

No received passport

Question: I sent in for a passport renewal back in November just before Thanksgiving and PA received it on Dec 2. As of today January 9th I haven't received my new passport. I called and was put on hold for 40 minutes. They told me all lined were busy and my wait would be 28 minutes, never did get to speak to a person. I'm concerned because tracking isn't showing me anything and my check was cashed.

Answer: If you applied in the last week of November, you're currently on the 6th week of processing. Please note that standard processing takes 6 to 8 weeks to complete. The time elapsed since you sent the application is still well within the published processing times. You may check the status of your application here:

Did Not Receive Renewed Passport - Check Cashed

Question: My passport has not arrived; I applied for TSA and they informed me that it should have arrived by now. I applied over a month ago for a renewal.

Answer: Have you checked the status? Please note that processing times are just approximations. Standard service usually takes 4 to 6 weeks to complete, sometimes a little longer.

If the status says completed but it has not arrived, you may file Form DS-86 Statement of Non-Receipt of U.S. Passport. Please call 1-877-487-2778 for more information.

8 Weeks and No Passport

Question: I turned in my application Jan. 10 and it was received on Jan. 14, 2019. This week marks the 8th week since from the time my application was turned in. I called the office, but all they could tell me was that it was being processed. I've been reading online forums and usually every post stated they received their passport on the 8th week. Don't understand what the hold up is, but it's starting to get frustrating.

Answer: The 4 to 6 weeks processing time is just an approximation. It may take longer than 6 weeks for your application to be completed depending on the requirements and the volume of applications being processed. You may check the status of your application here: or keep following up by calling 1-877-487-2778.

Passport lost by renewal office

Question: What do I do if the passport renewal office can't locate my package though USPS says it has been delivered where it should? Information center can't help as I am not in their system.

Answer: Unfortunately, the only information that customer service representatives can provide is whether the application is still being processed or the process is completed. Some visitors in similar situations have had positive results by submitted a complaint via the Passport Services feedback system.

If it has been more than 10 days since the passport was supposed to be sent out, you may fill out and submit Form DS-86 Statement of Non-Receipt of U.S. Passport. This application must be accompanied by a clear photocopy of the front and back of a government-issued ID containing your photograph. This should be sent to the passport agency that processed your application. Please call the National Passport Information Center for the address.

Please make sure you submit this form within 90 days of the issue date, otherwise you will have to pay the fees again to get a new one issued.
