Is my UK passport acceptable for travel to the US?

by Tracy

Question: I have a UK passport that is not machine readable. It does contain a US visa that expires in June of next year. I wish to travel to the US in February next year. Will my passport and visa be sufficient for entry to the US?

Answer: Visitors to the United States who enter with a UK passport that is not machine readable are also required to have a valid entry. Since you have a valid US visa in your passport, it is sufficient for entry.

While your passport and visa are valid for your trip to the United States in February, you are encouraged to initiate the renewal process approximately 9 months before the date of expiration. This is due to the fact that many countries, including the U.S., require at least six months of validity in a passport before they will permit a visitor to enter.
