Should my 18 year-old daughter renew her passport in person?
by Veronica
(Hünstetten, Germany)
Question: My daughter is 18 and needs to renew her passport, which was issued on more than 4 years ago. It will expire on April 10 next year. We live in Germany, and I´m not sure if she has to appear in person at the consulate in Frankfurt to renew her passport, or if she can renew it by mail. Thanks! I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Answer: Your daughter must appear in person in order to apply for a new passport. Since she was a minor when she received her most recently issued passport, she cannot renew by mail. She must apply for a new passport using form DS-11 and submit all supporting documentation. For complete details, click the link below.
