Renewal of a passport with valid visa to Liberia
by Suzanne
(New York, NY)
Question: My passport expires within 5 months of my travel to Liberia but I have a VISA in my passport that will be valid. 1) Do I need to renew? 2) If I renew, what do I do about the VISA being in the old passport?
I will be in Liberia November 27 to Dec 16 but my passport expires May 25 of the next year. The visa is good in the passport however until the end of December.
thanks!
Answer: Neither the U.S. Department of State nor the Liberia Embassy in Washington DC state that a passport must have a specific validity in order for an American citizen to enter the country. The implication is that your passport is valid up to the date of expiration. You should have no problem entering and exiting the country with the valid passport and visa.
