Question: I found one US passport on the road (Near Del Amo shopping mall in Torrance, CA) on 26th Nov 2010 with semi damaged condition and do not know whom should I handover.

I contacted USPS first and they replied to contact National Passport Information Center.

Answer: Once reported lost, a passport is already invalidated and can no longer be used for travel even if it is found. You can keep that as a memento and apply for a new passport for travel.

Answer: You might try to contact the embassy of your home country so they can assist you in contacting the appropriate office to retrieve your passport. If they do not have the capacity to do this, they can at least assist you in getting a new passport or emergency travel document.

Question: I recently left my passport on board a flight. I reported it to the airline. As I didn't hear from them in the first week I reported my passport as lost and have applied for a new one. The airline then sent me my original passport. I would like to know where to send it to ensure that it does not go against my multiple lost products. Can I get confirmation that it has been received? Answer: Passports that are reported as lost are immediately cancelled. You can either keep the passport as a momento or mail it in for destruction. If you want a record, you can request Signiture Confirmation via USPS.
