Can I go to my local courthouse to get my passport?

Question: I already have to go to the Courthouse to apply for/obtain my new social security card and want to know if I can do both at the same place. I also want to know if I can write a check or pay with my debit card instead of cash.


Answer: First of all, you need to apply for a Social Security card at the nearest Social Security Card Center. The address for the center in Fort Worth is listed below.

It takes a couple of weeks for the card to be delivered to you.

There are two fees for a new passport. The application fee is paid to the "Department of State". Personal checks, money orders and bank drafts can be used at all locations. Exact cash at some locations.

The execution fee is paid to the agent at the acceptance facility. Money orders and bank drafts can be used at all locations, payable as instructed by the Acceptance Facility. Personal checks and exact cash can be used at some locations.

Passport renewals by mail or new passports submitted at application facilities take 4-5 weeks to process unless you request expedited service. The fee for this extra service is $60 and will get your passport delivered in 2-3 weeks.
