Address to the Philadelphia Passport Expediting Center

by Anthony
(Canada)

Question: My passport was overnighted from Canada to the National Passport Processing Center in Philadelphia for expediting its renewal. I used the P.O. box information listed on the website as the address.

Once it arrived in Philadelphia I was notified by the carrier that they need a physical address as they could not forward it to the P.O. box. I tried calling the 1-877-487-2778 number to ask for this information, but I cannot call an 877 exchange from Canada.

My passport is to expire at the end of the month and I am working in Canada. I need to know if there is a physical address which I can give to the carrier so the passport can be delivered? If I cannot supply a physical address the parcel will be returned to Canada which will cause further delay in the processing.

Answer: Unfortunately, there is no other address to which you can mail your passport application than the PO Box. You must use an express mail service that will deliver to a PO Box. The USPS claims that their Express Mail Overnight Delivery service is the only one that delivers to PO Boxes.

You should be able to call the 877 number from Canada. However, it will not be toll-free. You will pay international phone rates. Skype allows for calls to toll-free numbers. Read more here.
