Post office acceptance facility asking for SSN by: Anonymous Question: I recently visited a nearby postal service to apply for a passport for my infant. They were saying they need an SSN to go further process. Is any rules most recently? Answer: A social security number is required for a passport application. However, for newborns, parents may provide a notarized statement with more or less the following words: "I declare under penalty of perjury under the laws of the United States of America that the following is true and correct: (Child's full name) has never been issued a Social Security Number by the Social Security Administration."
