Question: I am a US citizen living in Ontario, Canada. Last night my purse was stolen along with my US passport.

The consulate general here suggested you can issue me a new one faster than our 2 week processing period. My urgency is that I have tickets to fly to Australia August 2nd. I cannot make an appointment using your phone number here in Canada. I am only 2 hrs away from Detroit and am willing to drive to your offices if you can help me.

Answer: If your flight is scheduled for August 2, then you have a approximately 6 weeks to obtain your passport. You do not need to expedite the process unless you want to. Routine service takes 4-6 weeks. Expedited service takes 2-3 weeks. For more information, click the link below.

How do I expedite my passport?

by Debbi
(Warren, Ohio United States)

Question: I am a passport holder and the expiration of this passport is coming very soon; in fact in a week or so. I am a Flight Attendant with Continental Airlines. I fly regularly into Toronto, Montreal, and other cities in Canada. With this position, I cannot be without it, therefore I am hesitant to submit my passport for renewal. Is there another course of action I can take?

Answer: You can expedite your passport as quickly as the same day. There are two options. One, you can appear at a regional passport agency and submit the application yourself. Two, you can authorize a private expediting service to submit your application.

To renew your passport, you are required to submit application form DS-82, your most current passport and one passport photo taken within the last 6 months.

Since you have several questions about how to expedite a passport application, they will be answered in the order that you gave them. There are a few different ways to get your passport quickly.

What are the steps to go about getting my passport quickly?

I assume by "quickly", you mean in less than two weeks. In order to get the application processed that fast, you need to schedule an appointment at the Miami Passport Agency by calling 1-877-487-2778.

What documents do I need to do so?

Requirements include a completed but unsigned form DS-11, photo ID, a copy of the identification document, evidence of citizenship (birth certificate) and one recent passport photo. If your name has been legally changed, you also need to submit that evidence. Since you are requesting expedited service, you must present evidence of urgent travel plans.

Can I do it myself?

Yes, you can. Of course, for as little as $149 you can get an experienced passport expediting service to do this for you and save yourself from having to travel to Miami and wait in long lines.

How much is it?

There are three fees for expedited passport processing. The application fee is $110, the execution fee is $25 and the expedited service fee is $60.

How long does it take?

Applications submitted in person at a regional agency can be processed as quickly as the same day to as long as two weeks. The agent will decide when your request is processed based on your departure date.

Expedited Service in 2-3 Weeks

If you do not require your passport in less than two weeks, you can visit the application acceptance facility in Vero Beach.

Indian River County Clerk of Court
2000 16th Avenue
Vero Beach, FL 32961

The same documents and fees are required. You can add the fee for Passport Book Overnight Delivery to accelerate the arrival of your new passport. The execution fee is paid to the agent at the acceptance facility. All other fees are paid to the Department of State. Be sure to write the word "Expedite" on the outside of the envelope. Your passport should arrive in 2-3 weeks.
