Can my passport be sent to the U.S. for a visa application?

Question: We're in Thailand and need to apply for Indian business visas. Is it legal to mail our passports back to the US and apply for Indian business visas while remaining in Thailand without passports?

Answer: It is not illegal to mail a passport. However, the Thai government probably requires foreigners to have a valid passport in their possession at all times, especially since the entry stamp shows how long you are permitted to remain in the country. Also, any complications with mail delivery or the business visa process in the United States could tie up your passport.

We recommend you visit the Embassy of India in Bangkok to apply for your visa. The embassy processes visa application for both Thai nationals and non-Thai nationals. Click the link below for more information.
