Will my child's passport issued 3 years ago still be valid for a trip to Mexico in June?

by Angie

My son traveled to Mexico three years ago. He has a valid passport now. Youth passports expire at age 18. Will his current passport still be valid for our next trip to Mexico on June 20th, 2010? His 18th birthday is on June 13th, 2010.

Angie,

Passports issued to minors are valid for 5 years starting from the date of issuance. Validity is not linked to date of birth. If your son's passport was issued three years ago, then it should still be valid for another 2 years. He will not need to apply for new passport before he travel to Mexico. The date of validity can be found on the data page of a passport book and on the front of a passport card.

Best regards,

William
