Question: When are the passport fees officially going to increase?
Answer: The U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Services has not established an official date for the increase in passport fees.
The proposal was published on February 9. A 30-day period for comments from the public was set from that date. After this period, the comments will be evaluated.
According to Deputy Assistant Secretary for Passport Services Brenda S. Sprague, "The proposed fees will not be implemented until after the public comment period, which ends on March 11th, and after the Department has had an opportunity to carefully consider the comments received and make any changes necessary to the fee rule."
How long the Department needs to "carefully consider the comments received" is unknown.
