When do passport fees increase?

by Marty
(Indianapolis, In, USA)

When are the passport fees officially going to increase?

===========

Marty,

The U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Services has not established an official date for the increase in passport fees.

The proposal was published on February 9. A 30-day period for comments from the public was set from that date. After this period, the comments will be evaluated.

According to Deputy Assistant Secretary for Passport Services Brenda S. Sprague, "The proposed fees will not be implemented until after the public comment period, which ends on March 11th, and after the Department has had an opportunity to carefully consider the comments received and make any changes necessary to the fee rule."

How long the Department needs to "carefully consider the comments received" is unknown.

I can't afford to go see my grandson
by: martha zanlungo

With only $800 month income for social security, I have not been able to see my grandson that lives in Toronto for 2 years. My daughter doesn't know that I can't afford to pay for a passport. I use excuses that I am not feeling well, etc. My grandson is one of the few joys in my life, yet I can't afford to go see him. I know 9/11 has caused a lot of problems, but I have been denied the joy of seeing my only grandson. Now the fees are suppose to go up again. I may never be able to travel to Toronto again. Can't you do something to help seniors on limited income travel out of the US?
