Renewing Password Before Getting Married

Question: Yes, I need to renew my passport for my honeymoon trip and wondered how I would go about this.......if I renew before my wedding it will list my current name.

We will be taking a trip to the islands so what paperwork do I need to bring along with me to insure that my honeymoon trip is hassle free?

My wedding isn't until March 2011.

Answer: Here are the steps you need to take.

1. Renew passport in your current legal name.

Passports can only be issued with your current legal name and not according to a future name change.

2. Make reservations and purchase tickets in the name that is in the passport.

Secure Flight, the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) behind-the-scenes watch list matching program, requires airlines to collect a passenger’s full name (as it appears on government-issued ID), date of birth, gender and Redress Number (if applicable).

3. Upon return from your honeymoon, apply for a passport name change.

There is no fee for this service if you make the request within one year of the passport's issuance date. If you wait beyond this date, you will be required to pay the passport application fee for a renewal. Presently, the fee is $110 for a passport book and $30 for a passport card.
