Passport Services in Houston

If you live in or near Houston and need to obtain a U.S. passport, you have three options. The one you choose will depend on how quickly you need to get your passport. Check out the information below and discover which service is best for you and your situation.

Houston Passport Offices

The number of United States passport offices has increased in the past several years from 5,000 to over 7,000 locations. These can be post offices, clerks of court, public libraries and other state, county, township, and municipal government offices. The agents at these offices are authorized by the U.S. government to witness the signing of your DS-11 application for a new passport. They also send in your application to the appropriate regional agency for it to be processed.

There are 30 Houston passport offices where you can submit application Form DS-11 and other required documents. You are only required to visit a passport office if you are applying for a new passport. For other types of applications such as a renewal or name change, you can apply by mail. You can apply for regular service which can take up to 6 weeks or expedited service which takes 3 weeks or more. If you need your passport faster, you will have to acquire it through a regional passport agency or a private expediter.

Houston Passport Agency

The Houston Passport Agency attends to travelers who are booked to travel or submitting their passports for foreign visas, within 14 days or 28 days, respectively. The first step to apply at a passport agency is to schedule an appointment through an automated service. This may require you to call many times, especially during peak travel season.

After you make the appointment, you need to travel to the agency location where you will be attended to. Once again, depending on the time of year, you may find yourself waiting in long, crowded lines to get your passport. Be sure to arrive at the passport agency 10 to 15 minutes before you appointment. Arriving late may result in the cancellation of your appointment.

Houston Passport Expediting Services

If you are unable to schedule an appointment at the regional agency, or if you don't want to spend precious time in potentially long lines, you may employ the services of an experienced passport expediter. Expediters are registered with the regional agency and maintain daily appointments with them so they can get your application processed in as fast as the same day. Additional fees apply on top of the government fees.
