These are authorized by the government to witness the signing of your DS-11 application for a new passport. They also send in your application to the appropriate regional agency for processing if you choose this route. You only need to apply in person if you require a new passport. For other services, you can send in the application by mail. You should also only use an acceptance office if you are not in a hurry. Otherwise, you need to expedite your passport. There are more than 9,000 U.S. passport acceptance offices. These can be post offices, clerks of court, public libraries and other state, county, township, and municipal government offices.
Chicago Passport AgencyThe Chicago Passport Agency only attends travelers who intend to travel within 14 days and need a passport. To apply at a Passport Agency, you must first schedule an appointment. Getting an appointment is a challenge, especially during high travel season. If you actually do get an appoint, you should arrive 15 minutes early. Be sure to take your application, supporting documents and social security card.
