Passport Services in Chicago
If you live in Chicago and need to get a passport, you have three options. Read on to determine which one is best for your situation.
Chicago Passport Offices
There are more than 9,400
U.S. passport acceptance offices. These can be post offices, clerks of court, public libraries and other state, county, township, and municipal government offices.
There are currently 35
Chicago passport offices. These are authorized by the government to witness the signing of your DS-11 application for a new passport. They also send in your application to the appropriate regional agency for processing if you choose this route.
You are only required to apply in person if you are applying for a new passport. For other services, you can send in the application by mail. Processing can take up to six weeks for regular service or up to three weeks if you want the application expedited. For quicker service, you can apply at the regional agency or through an expediter.
Chicago Passport Agency
The
Chicago Passport Agency only attends travelers who intend to travel within 14 days and need a passport. Besides the form and supporting documents, you also need to provide evidence of urgent travel plans.
To apply at a Passport Agency, you must first schedule an appointment. Getting an appointment is a challenge, especially during high travel season. If you actually do get an appoint, you should arrive 15 minutes early. Be sure to take your application, supporting documents and social security card.
Chicago Passport Expediting Services
There are several
Chicago passport expediters that are registered with the processing center. They can get your passport processed and returned to you in as little as 24 to 48 hours. In some circumstances, they can get a passport the same day.
