Passport Requirement for Closed-Loop Cruise
by Christy C.
(New York, NY )
Questions: We are going on a cruise from November 1-8 to Bermuda. Actually it is a closed-loop cruise (New York-Bermuda-New York). My husband's US Passport will expire on February 2 next year. Can we use his passport to exit and re-enter to the U.S.?
If not, are there any other ways we can enter Bermuda and the U.S. without renewing his current passport? Can we use the certificate of naturalization to exit and re-enter?
Thank you so much!Answer:
Bermuda requires a valid passport for entry. It only needs to be valid for the proposed duration of your stay. No additional period of validity beyond this is required.
Since your husband's passport does not expire until after his return to the United States, there is no reason to renew it prior to the cruise. He can use it to exit and re-enter the U.S.
