Question: Is there or was there a specific passport for travel to the Caribbean?
Answer: American citizens who travel to the Caribbean by air must possess a valid passport book. This is the same passport that is used for travel to any other foreign country. Those who travel by sea can use the new passport card.
Those who are traveling on a closed-loop cruise may not need a passport. A closed-loop cruise begins and ends in the same U.S. city. In this case, no passport is required to re-enter the United States. However, U.S. citizens may still be required to present a valid passport at a port-of-entry for the destination(s) they visit.
