Is it legal to be in a foreign country and mail your passport back to US for visa to another country?
Question: We're in Thailand and need to apply for Indian business visas. Is it legal to mail our passports back to the US and apply for Indian business visas while remaining in Thailand without passports?
It is not illegal to mail a passport. However, the Thai government probably requires foreigners to have a valid passport in their possession at all times, especially since the entry stamp shows how long you are permitted to remain in the country. Also, any complications with mail delivery or the business visa process in the United States could tie up your passport.
