Is a new same day passport processing office opening in Atlanta, GA?

Question: Please advise the location and date if this is true. I'm planning a group trip and most of the travelers live 45 minutes from downtown Atlanta so this would be very convenient.

Answer: The U.S. Department of State announced plans to expand the number of regional passport agencies in June of 2009. The objective is to open agencies in the State of Vermont, in the cities of Buffalo, New York, El Paso, Texas, Atlanta, Georgia and San Diego, California, and to establish public counters at two existing locations, the National Passport Center in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and the Arkansas Passport Center in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

To date, no new agency has opened in any of these locations. The only additional news we have heard is that the Buffalo office may open toward the end of this year. Therefore, I would not count on the Atlanta passport agency opening any time soon.
