Use the International Cost of Living Comparison Infographic to Find Affordable Travel Destinations

Taking a trip abroad can be quite expensive. One way you can minimize the cost is to choose a destination that has a low cost of living. The infographic below compares the cost of living based on the Consumer Price Index which only takes into account the prices of groceries, transportation, restaurants and utilities. While you will incur expenses during a vacation for other items not on the list, these are representative of the cost of goods and services in a country and give a good idea of how cheap or expenses a particular location is.

A good place to start is the list of 15 countries with the lowest cost of living. Unless you enjoy high-risk activities and don't mind additional entry requirements, you probably want to avoid those countries for which The Department of State has warned of travel risks and encouraged U.S. citizens to defer all non-essential travel. Popular destinations which attract a lot of American tourists include India and the Philippines. Of course, a good option for anyone looking for a cheap destinations closer to the U.S. is Mexico.
