Question: I'm leaving the country on July 22nd. If I send off for expedited (2-3w) passport by July 2nd is that cutting it too close?
My daughter and I are leaving the country on July 22nd. I sent her passport information last Friday but haven't sent mine.
Should I try to go to an official passport agency in person to obtain both passports or try and get mine through the mail. I'm afraid it won't make it in time even with expedited service (2-3weeks). If I send my passport by July 2nd what is the probability that it will get to me by July 21st?
Answer: This is a prediction that we cannot make. Current processing time for expedited service is 2 to 3 weeks. There have been occasions in which application were processed in less than two weeks. Of course, others have been completed in more than 3 weeks.
Predictions cannot be made because there are too many factors that affect the processing time. Whether you submit your application for expedited services by mail or you schedule an appointment at the nearest regional agency is a decision that only you can make.
If you expedite your passport by mail, you leave yourself no room for error. It is not uncommon for applications to be delayed because of a small mistake on the application, problems with passport photos or the applicant forgot to include the payment or sign the check.
If you prefer not to run the risk of having to cancel your trip, you can either schedule an appointment at the nearest regional agency or apply through a professional expediting service.
The nearest regional agency to Missouri is in Chicago. A trip to Chicago could cost quite a bit. You can get your passport in two weeks through a professional expediter for an additional $65 fee. You would probably spend a lot more to visit the agency in Chicago.
