Question: Because of marriage I live in Canada. Can I still send my application for passport renewal to the National Passport Processing Center in Philadelphia? My mailing address now is in Canada. Will they send my new passport out to me in Canada? Are there additional fees because its going to be mailed out to Canada? The 2 phone numbers from the travel.state.gov site don't go through because I'm in Canada. Thanks
Answer: You should complete application form DS-82 and mail it to the address on the form along with two recent passport photos, your most current passport and payment.
American Citizens living in Canada are eligible for passport renewal by mail. The DS-82 form is not correct where it states that passports may be renewed by mail only if the applicant is using a U.S. mailing address. In fact, an exception is made for residents of Canada.
Note, you can only use form DS-82 if you were age 16 or older when your current passport was issued.
If you name has changed since your last passport was issued, then you need to include evidence of the legal name change.
There is no extra fee because you live in Canada. There is an extra $60 fee if you want to expedite the process so that your passport application will be processed faster.
Your current passport will be returned to you although it may arrive separately.
You are encouraged to use a traceable delivery method and a secure means of packaging, such as a Tyvek envelope.
