How long can someone stay in a Germany on an American passport?

by Loretta
(Germany)

My husband and I are stationed in Germany and my mother has come to visit. She flew here in December and is scheduled to return to the states in April, which will make her visit her around 90 days. She is wanting to extend her visit until the end July. Is she able to stay that long without a visa or are there time limits on how long someone can stay in a foreign country on just an American passport?

================

Loretta,

Please contact the foreigners authority (Auslaenderbehoerde) in your current town of residence in Germany. The foreigners authorities are responsible for measures and decisions pertaining to residence law for foreigners already residing in Germany. These authorities are NOT subordinate agencies of the Federal Foreign Office, and the Federal Foreign Office cannot influence their decisions. They are, in fact, accountable to and operate under the supervision of the respective interior ministries and senators of the Länder (federal states).

U.S. citizens can apply for a residence permit (longer stay in Germany) at the competent local Foreigners Authority.

Best regards,

William
