How can I be notified if anyone files for a passport under my child's name?

by Erika

Question: Is there a data base that my child's name can be put into so I can be notified if anyone applies for a passport for him?

Answer: Yes, there is a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State called the Children's Passport Issuance Alert Program. The program allows parents to register minor children in the Passport Lookout System. If you register your child in this program, you will receive an alert from the State Department when a parent or guardian attempts to obtain a passport for the child.

Note, this program does not serve to revoke passports already issued. If your child already has a passport, this program does not alert parents when the passport is used. Also, it cannot stop children from exiting the United States who are dual citizens and possess a valid passport from another country.
