Expedite Passport

by Kayli
(Anaheim, CA, US)

Question: Hi there:

My dad filled out a form from the postal office to get an expedited passport since his passport book didn't have enough pages. My understanding is that it usually takes 2-3 weeks to get it back. However, there's a great urgency to get it sooner since he needs to leave within a week or so to visit his mother who's terminally ill with cancer and needs his care. What should he do in this situation?

Answer: First of all, the 2-3 weeks processing time for expedited passports is an estimate. It is possible that your father's passport could arrive earlier. You can click the link below to check the status of his application. Note, it takes about 5 days for the process to appear in the system.

Passport Application Status

Since the passport application has already been sent, the only way to get it faster is to personally appear at a regional passport agency. In order to do this, your father needs to contact the National Passport Information Center to schedule an appointment.

Before making the appointment, we recommend he speak with a representative and inform them that his application has already been mailed. Click the link below for the NPIC telephone number and the address of the nearest regional agency.
