Do the passport rules for children 16 and under apply for a 17 year old?
(Findlay, Ohio, USA)
Question: My daughter will be 18 in September and her passport expired a few years ago. My mom is gravely ill in Jamaica and I want to have her renewal expedited in the event of death. What is the most efficient way to accomplish this and the most expedient?
Thank you for any help you can offer! I see information regarding minors 16 and under but not quite sure where she falls under due to her age.Answer:
Minors ages 16 and 17 must appear in person at a passport application acceptance facility. Parents do not have to appear with the minor if the minor can provide photo ID. Written consent is only requested if it is not implied on the application form.
The requirements your daughter will need to provide are listed below.
1. Completed, unsigned application Form DS-11
2. Evidence of U.S. citizenship
3. Proof of identity
4. Photocopy of identification document
5. 1 recent passport photo
6. Payment of fees
