Do I need to use my married name on my new passport when it is expired and I am leaving for my honeymoon the day after my wedding?
Question: My passport is expired, and I am getting married on June 26th of this year. We are leaving for St. Lucia on June 28. I am uncertain on whether I should use my current name or the name I will take upon marrying my fiance. Regardless, I know I need a new passport. I simply do not want to pay another $130 in one month.
You must apply for a passport in your legal name. Since you will not be married until June, you need to renew you passport in your present name.
Note, the Secure Flight Program requires tickets and boarding passes to have the same name as that of your government-issued ID. Therefore, you should purchase tickets using the same name that is in your passport.
The fee for a passport renewal is $110. Processing takes 4-6 weeks. There is a $60 expedited service fee which is optional. You will get your application processed in 2-3 weeks.
