Do I need to have proof of residency when renewing my passport in person?

Question: I need to renew my passport now, but I am about to move to a different address than the one I'm currently in. Do I need to wait until we have closed on the house in order to provide proof of residency?

Answer: Proof of residency is not required when submitting an application for a passport renewal. All you need to submit is completed Form DS-82, your current passport, one passport photo and payment for fees.

Routine processing is currently taking 4-6 weeks. Expedited processing takes 2-3 weeks. If you need to renew your passport more quickly, it will be necessary for you to visit a regional passport agency or employ the services of a registered passport expediter.
