Can I drive through China from India in a private car?

Question: I would like to go to the Taj Mahal in India & some other places there, buy a Tato-nano & drive to Russia (where I will meet with some students from Evergreen State College in Washington State) through China.

I am afraid to drive through Pakistan & would prefer exposure to Chinese culture anyway, but I noticed on the application for a Visa that I would have to provide copies of airlines tickets. The airline tickets I envision would be to Delhi India. Would this work?

Answer: In order to travel by car through China, the Chinese government requires you have the following.

1. Guide from a registered travel agency in China
2. Car permit for China
3. Chinese visa

When applying for the visa to China, you need to submit evidence of your travel to India, a letter explaining your plans to travel by car and the itinerary from the Chinese travel agency.
