Can I apply for a passport in Houston if I live in Atlanta Georgia?

Question: I live in Atlanta, Georgia. Need passport ASAP. Can I apply in person in Houston as I am visiting Houston prior to my international travel as opposed to New Orleans? It will make my life easy.

Answer: Each regional passport agency has jurisdiction over and serves U.S. citizens who reside in specific states or parts of states. The State Department requests that applicants make an appointment at and apply to the regional agency that serves the state where they reside.

However, this is not always possible. We have accounts of many applicants who were allowed to apply at agencies other than the ones that served their respective states.

While you will probably be allowed to submit your passport application at the Houston agency, we cannot guarantee that this will happen.
